Monique Zammit Fitness provides a range of effective sports massage treatments with the intention of helping athletes improve performance, ability and increase their general health and wellbeing. She uses a range of techniques to stimulate various areas of the body that relate to sports performance. Whilst these techniques are an efficient method of enhancing an athlete’s ability to perform and relieve the stress sports and exercise can have on the body, our treatments are also effective for people whose work entails heavy lifting, and for individuals who require massage in general.

Our treatments include remedial, deep tissue, trigger point therapy and Swedish massage, with all methods playing a different part in stimulating the joints, muscles and reduce the effects of stress and anxiety.

Remedial Massage 

Remedial Massage performed by a Remedial Massage Therapist is a form of deep tissue massage focusing on tight and restricted soft tissue causing sore muscles and aching joints. A Remedial Massage Therapist aims to increase soft tissue flexibility, joint mobility assisting in recovery and prevention of injury by using trigger point therapy.


Muscle tension or chronic pain can be a result of a combination of factors such as stress from work, prolonged hours sitting behind a desk, lower activity levels or sports injuries. Soft tissue tension over time leads to movement imbalances and postural dysfunctions causing musculoskeletal pain.

What is Deep Tissue Massage?

Deep Tissue or Sports Massage is specifically used to effectively releases tight, overused or strained muscles associated with intense sports training loads. Deep tissue massage works by increasing blood flow to the tissues, assisting with scar tissue breakdown and encouraging lymphatic drainage of swelling and waste products.Treatment assists in sports performance to aid recovery time, reduce muscle tightness and prevent sports related strains and injury. Muscles without rest take longer to recover especially if combined with long hours sitting at a desk.


Sports Massage
Perfect for athletes regardless of skill or playing level, sports massage focuses on regions of the body overused by the athlete which may be suffering from stress. The massage therapy provided intends to alleviate pain caused by stress on the muscles, joints, tendons and ligaments.

Myofascial Release
This is a highly effective method to help reduce pain and stress in the myofascial connective tissue. Our therapist uses the hands to directly seek out tension in the myofascial tissue before applying pressure to help relieve the pain it’s causing.

Trigger Point Therapy

A form of remedial massage therapy, trigger point therapy involves pressure being applied to specified points of muscle tissue in order to alleviate pain throughout the body. As certain sections of muscle tissue directly effect pain caused throughout the body, this can be an effective method of treatment to help reduce pain in those specific areas.
Trigger points are basically small painful knots in your skeletal muscle which in turn affect your muscle fibers. This is the source most most muscle pain, hence the term ‘knots’. By using Trigger Point Therapy one can help reduce and eliminate muscle pain leading to more comfort and increased athletic performance.
 The spot is painful on compression and can give rise to characteristic referred pain and tenderness. By applying pressure to these points, we can deactivate them, helping reduce pain and discomfort in the area.

Cupping

An ancient form of medicine, cupping is conducted by applying heated cups to the skin to create suction. The treatment is intended to increase blood flow throughout the body, which in turn helps alleviate pain and stress caused by the muscles, joints, tendons and ligaments. Not only this, but it has long been hailed as an effective treatment for anxiety and relaxation.





Scraping Therapy 

Gua sha aims to move energy, known as qi or chi, around the body. The treatment involves using a tool to rub the skin in long strokes, applying enough pressure to create minor bruising.

Gua sha may help to break down scar tissue and connective tissue, improving movement in the joints. The treatment does not have any serious side effects but is not suitable for those with certain medical conditions.
Gua sha is most often used to relieve muscle and joint pain. Conditions of the muscles and bones are known as musculoskeletal disorders. Some examples include back pain, tendon strain, and carpal tunnel syndrome.
